THE BOOK

In “The Things They Carried,” author Tim O’Brien’s presents a fictionalized account of his experiences in Vietnam. He paints a compelling sometimes brutal psychological portrait of a soldier caught in war’s grip. Many of the soldiers, like O’Brien, who made it home alive, are haunted by images of a nightmarish time in their lives. In this fictionalized account, O’Brien gives voice to the nightmare that lives on in the heads and hearts of Vietnam veterans.
