Elizabeth "Betty" Beardsley KVL Director 1974-1988

Katonah Village Library Trustees and Staff remember Betty Beardsley fondly for her intelligence, graciousness and sense of humour. We will miss her at the library where she worked even after her retirement as Director. Elizabeth "Betty" Beardsley of Heritage Hills in Somers died at home following a short illness on Jan. 25. She was a resident of Katonah from 1952 to 2004, and a former school board member.

Ms. Beardsley was born in Minneapolis to Percy Wash and Elizabeth Stacy Wash on May 6, 1920. She graduated from Wellesley College in 1942 and received a degree in library science from Long Island University in 1977. She served on the Katonah-Lewisboro school board from 1960 to 1968 and was director of the Katonah Village Library from 1974 to 1988. She was a member of and a volunteer with many local community organizations, including League of Women Voters, Katonah Village Improvement Society, Wellesley in Westchester and Somers Library.

Charles McDuffie

 KVL Trustee 2004-2007

Charles McDuffie served as KVL Trustee and on the Buildings and Grounds committee helping to keep our building in tip top shape. He volunteered his time and talents to help us with many other jobs after his term ended as a Trustee. We will miss his great smile and friendly manner.

Helen Lazzaro

Friend of KVL

Helen died recently at the age of 94. Up until a few months ago she walked to the library every day from her home on High Street and visited us at the library. We will miss her bringing the news of Katonah to us.
